A temple town on the road to Chopta
Ukhimath is a small Garhwali town in Rudraprayag — the winter home of Kedarnath and Madmaheshwar. When the high shrines close for snow, the deities rest here at Omkareshwar Temple, with Chaukhamba rising behind the rooftops.
Guests stay at Chopta Resort, about 41 km up the hill, then drive down for a quiet morning in town. From here the road continues to Kalimath and the Madmaheshwar trailheads at Ransi and Gaundar.
