Highest point in Chopta
A sunrise over the Great Himalayas
Chandrashila means “Moon Rock” — the summit of Chandra Parvat, sitting above Tungnath Temple. At 4,090 m it is the highest point of the Chopta region, with a 180° panorama of Nanda Devi, Trishul, Chaukhamba, and more than sixty peaks on a clear morning.
The walk continues 1.5 km past Tungnath. Most guests leave Chopta Resort at first light, reach the temple in under two hours, then climb on for sunrise. Legend holds that Lord Rama meditated here after defeating Ravana.
